The Your Choice program is a 24-week Perpetrator Programme. The program provides group and 1-1 interventions for men and women who want help to stop using abusive behaviors towards an intimate or (ex)partner/s. Intervention Programmes are important because repeat victimization/serial perpetration is common and no other crime has a repeat victimization rate as high (Dodd et al 2004). Statistics showing that 44% of victims are involved in more than one incident. Also, the social /financial costs to victims/families and society are extremely high. Perpetrator programs aim to tackle the cause of the problem in addition to dealing with the consequences of DV.
With the Integrated partner support service Offering and providing emotional support for up to a Year to ex-partners and partners of clients that have been assessed as suitable for an intervention program
The 24-week intervention programme using the second step manual is currently being delivered online Via Zoom.
The programme is split into two halves. The first half is the Safer Relationships Programme (SRP). This is delivered in 12 weeks, one session per week, Respectful Relationship Programme (RRP) is delivered in the next 12 weeks, one session per week.
Post Programme offer of monthly maintenance group and a Key Worker, with one to one sessions.
Most service users will enter into an evening group program. This allows them to build a support network within-group and learn from the experiences of other group members, as well as share their own experiences. Within-group all group members are asked to share and discuss their experiences and create a supportive and productive environment with their own group rules. One male and one female facilitator deliver a group program to model a respectful relationship between a man and a woman. One-to-one intervention is also offered to service users in exceptional circumstances. One-to-one intervention allows for more flexibility to suit the client’s needs. Those typically offered one-to-one interventions are: those who have limited English, mutual abuse partners, female service users, those with additional learning needs or will not be able to learn effectively in a group setting. One-to-one intervention is also a 24-week program that takes a very similar structure to group programs, all the same, topics are covered.
While completing the assessment process and intervention, service users are also assigned a key worker. Their key worker will be supported during their time at the Your Choice Project. The role of the key worker is to; catch service users up on any missed sessions, provide any emotional support needed during the intervention, referrer/ signpost service users to additional services if needed, attend a multi-agency meeting and provide progress updates, liaise with other professionals that support the service user to ensure they are getting the best support possible.
Assessment reports are held internally and not shared in their entirety with other services, except in the following circumstances:
Where sharing the report is necessary in order to safeguard the client or others Where sharing the report is necessary in order to prevent a crime from being committed Where the Your Choice Project is ordered to do so by court order
Where the client has provided their explicit (written) consent to do so
Whilst assessment reports are rarely shared in their entirety, Your Choice Project regularly uses excerpts from reports to contribute to safeguarding processes. For example: informing Child Protection social workers of the outcome of the assessment and any risk concerns arising from the assessment.
The YCP writes reports on a client’s attendance (where suitable) also when a client is halfway through intervention and upon completion of the program. Any additional reports requested will need two weeks’ notification, YCP will also attend any court or multiagency meetings when requested.
